PostSubject: frozen waste   Tue Feb 20, 2007 3:14 pm

*Seven years ago, Menethil mountains, 1500 ft above the ocean*

The frozen head of a deer, open mouth and stinging eyes, stuck up throu the snow next to the trunk of a dead pine tree, morbid in expression and no doubt had been so for weeks. They were spread out in a single column, their faces covered from the wind with thick brown garments, as the man in front raised his arm indicating increasing speed with a short sign of his fingers tipping forward. The weather was getting worse, and the shelter was still an hours track away. There was no question of setting a temporary camp, no recruits of his was going to fold. He would not have it.

The dark layer of snow kept falling slowly, thick as a blanket and smoothly folded out in the skies high above the naked mountain. The trace dug out from the party ahead, still strong in the dunes of snow, laying around a meter on each side and in various heights as the terrain changed on the ground. The tiny holes of the walking sticks, so nessesairy for this encounter, was placed close togther while still visible, the snow devouring them within minutes.
Her head was bowed and the breathing fast, comming in rapid sessions trying to catch up with the pounding of the heart, mouth wide open to take in oxygen that came so slow. Blood rushing fast throu the cooled lungs, dry and hoarse tightening for each moutfull, the thin veins throbbing under the pressure and gathering several aching throbs down the side of her ribs.
She squinted her eyes throu the closed hood, trying to make out the party that had increased its speed ahead, feeling a different physical impact creep up on her body. The vision of the snowclad trail was pairing up with a second one next to it. She stopped in her track, something you must never ever do, with her full weight supported on the walking stick, and tried squinting her eyes further while blinking several times to get the two similar images to form into one, the right slightly dimmer than the other. Following the stongest of the two was the only logical decision, her dizzyness remaining as the body was occupied and with no resources left to treat any other than the most vital functions to sustain it. Her stomach clenched tight, to tight. The decition was made, but there was no responce in the legs, the muchles straining and suddenly feeling numb, incapable of momevement, giving a sensation of no longer belonging to the body. She had lost control.

The moment she stopped was the vital one, the mecanics freezing almost instantly and her body forcefully shutting it down to concentrate on the arteries that kept the heart from slipping into an uneven rythm. She stood still, incapable of movement, and to her frustration incapable of sound as well. All she could do was stand still and watch the last double images of the party meld and vanish into the blanket ahead. She opened her mouth wider, wheezing in an attempt to catch their attention, catching nothing but snowflakes. She was ment to be able to do this just fine! this was not happening. Parting the dry, cracked lips several times to try this, her body suddenly gave in under this last push of effort and energy. She slumped to her knees, the lefthanded dagger in the belt grinding dangerous into the thick leatherpatch at her thie, the one ment to protect the flesh from the various sharp objects sheated in the sockets. Her hearts intense pounding now having no sucess at eighter warming the muchles that refused to obey, nor keep them sustained in a straight position. Every limb was throbbing as she sat in the meter high trail, numb and dull in her face, eyes pale and soon without any other thought than rest.
"Five minutes... just five minutes" she whispered throu the cold breath. The walking stick fell to the side as her body followed, consiousness a strong term to use on a person who is soon beyond awareness other than breathing. Therefore there was no telling of how long she laid still, the rushing of blood the only sensation that was left.

Hours must have passed, it is the ony right conclusion. The body is covered in fifteen centimeters of fresh snow, iced hair sticking out from under the hood. Thats when her eyes flush open as her stomach is clencing tight. To tight. As a fist that pounds into her waist and draws the blood of her body. Her throat convulsing into a series of sobs, "no.. no.. no". Laying still like this she cries on into the isolated white, trying to calm the overworked heart from the inescapeable fear.
